Golf 'n Sail

A complete new golf holiday concept.

IMAGINE THIS: playing golf on Bali, the Islands of the Gods, and end your golfing holiday with an exciting 3-day sailing cruise aboard the 'Katharina', a genuine and traditional Bugenese (Phinisi) schooner that brings you from Bali to the Isle of Gili Terawangan located some 5 nautical miles off the coast of Lombok. Other than push bikes and horse carriages, at Gili Terawangan there is no motorized traffic. We stay on anchor here and you can swim, dive, snorkel, fish or just be lazy on deck. The next day we take you to the Isle of Lombok where you play your last round of your holiday.
  Sailing on board the Katharina

After this final round we’ll take you back to the 'Katharina' and sail off to the uninhabited islet of Gili Tangkong some 45 minutes off the coast where we will spend the rest of the afternoon and evening exploring the beaches, drinking fresh coconut milk and enjoying in splendid isolation a genuine bon fire and a seafood barbecue light years away from the world’s crowds. Before we return to Bali the next day, we enjoy the farewell party and spent the night at anchor.

This is your itinerary once you have arrived on the Island of the Gods:

Day 1, Saturday

  Pool at Le Meridien Nirwana
From Bali's international airport you will be transferred to the Le Meridien Nirwana Golf & Spa Resort for a well deserved rest and refreshing.

Day 2, Sunday

After breakfast, via rural Bali, you will be driven through central Bali to the mountainous region of Bedugul, where you play your first round of golf at the world famous Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club that is situated in an extinct volcanic crater at 1,200 meters above sea level, allowing you to play in temperatures ranging from 16 to 20°C. Here you are surrounded by lush tropical rainforest, near vertical crater walls, volcanic cones and fascinating mountains while you're spoilt with a bird's eye view on Lake Buyan in the distance. Golfing at Bali Handara sets the tone for the rest of your once-in-a-lifetime golfing holiday.

  Bali Handara Kosaido, hole 18
The one hour car ride to Bali Handara is a real eye opener, as it will take you to the central highlands of Bali, passing beautiful rice fields, villages and settlements that are so typical of rural Bali. The trip offers you incredible vistas in the process.
Arriving at the impressive traditional Balinese gate of Bali Handara, it will make you feel the mystical powers that are ever present on the Island of the Gods.
Created by Thomson, Wolveridge & Fream, this challenging layout is an absolute must to play for every golfer and ever since it was inaugurated in the book of the 50 best golf courses in the world in June 1987, Bali Handara has captured the imagination and hearts of golfers the world over while it is ranked within the top 100 courses in the world, hence its magnetic attraction to golfers from all four corners of the world.

Day 3, Monday

Your third day in Bali starts with a sumptuous breakfast after which we walk over to the world famous course of the Nirwana Bali Golf Club for your second round of golf.
Nirwana Bali Golf Club offers 18 fabulous holes designed by Greg Norman and is recognized internationally as one of the world's finest layouts in Asia.

  Nirwana Bali, hole 7
This par 72 course crosses rushing streams, meanders through rice terraces and offers spectacular views of the Indian Ocean.
The breathtakingly dramatic par 3 signature hole #7 offers a view on Bali's most recognized landmark, the famous Tanah Lot temple complex. Holes #13 and #14 are located along the cliff top where you should take a pause to take in the dramatic view that is framed by the sound of Indian Ocean waves crashing down on the beach below. It surely will help you to relax for the remainder of your game.

Day 4, Tuesday

The first full-day tour brings you to Ubud, Bali's premier art village where you can stroll around for hours and visit art studios that are occupied by Balinese and foreign artists alike. Ubud offers great places for food and beverage while shopping for souvenirs is something that is hard to resist here. We end the tour at the Monkey Forest where you will enjoy the company of monkeys that live in the wild. Mind your hand bags. These naughty monkeys love them too much. We'll have diner at a local restaurant.

Day 5, Wednesday

After breakfast we'll take you to Nusa Dua, one of Bali's famous beach resorts. Here you will be playing the course of the Bali Golf and Country Club, a layout that often hosts international tournaments and where Nick Faldo holds the course record with a 66. One of the local rules written on the score card says: 'Play is prohibited from Temple Grounds at holes #8 and #12, free drop nearest point of relief.' Reading this text, all of a sudden you realize that you're actually playing golf on the "Island of The Gods".
  Bali Golf and Country Club

With views on the Indian Ocean and the majestic Gunung (Mount) Agung in the distant horizon, this course offers a friendly but yet demanding layout and is actually divided over three totally different locations. The front 9 plays in a green and tree-rich environment that is located a stiff buggy ride away from holes #10 to #16 that are located in a coconut grove. The final 2 holes are sea-side holes and seem to be totally separated from the rest of the course as these are the only two holes that play around the clubhouse. The course is of championship standard, designed for players of all levels of skill and it's known for its beauty, its beach-like bunkers (especially on holes #10 to #16), and prevailing winds from the Indian Ocean on the links-type finishing holes #17 and #18. The course was designed by Hawaii's illustrious duo Rodney Wright and Robin Nelson who surely succeeded in creating a course that is on par with some of the best courses in their native country.

Day 6, Thursday

After breakfast we'll take you to the New Kuta Golf Club, the latest addition in Bali Golf.
This course is brand new and only open for play of 18 holes since December 2007.
  New Kuta Golf

USA based golf course architect Ron Fream has done a tremendous job in maintaining the natural features of the terrain and created a golf course that is as dramatic as you wish it to be. Without taking away anything from the rest of the course, especially the holes that play towards the Indian Ocean are of superb quality while holes #14 and #15 offer you spectacular views from way atop the cliffs.
The beach below is world renowned and frequented by surfers from all corners off the globe.
After your game we'll take you to Kuta, the place to be in Bali and where the world meets. Here you can shop till you drop and take in the world of entertainment the tropical and Balinese way. Kuta has great shopping and eating places and is home to the Hard Rock Hotel Bali.

Day 7, Friday

After breakfast we'll take you on your second full-day tour to the beaches of Lovina on the north coast of the island that are world renowned for the perfect surf as well as it being the playgrounds of dolphins that call the Java Sea home.

Deluxe room at Le Meridien Nirwana
Passing through rural villages and typical Bali sights and sounds at Lovina Beach you can try your hands on surfing at the many surfing schools. After a day at the beach we will return via Sanur, Bali's second most important beach resort village where we will have diner at a local restaurant before we return to our hotel.

Day 8, Saturday

After breakfast we meet at Café Batujimbar in Sanur from where we leave by mini bus or small coach to the village of Amed on the north-east coast passing beautiful rice terraces and steep valleys rarely included on regular Bali day trips.
  The deck, Katharina

In Amed we board the Katherina, a genuine and traditional Bugenese (Phinici) schooner for a weekend of sailing, singing, dancing, eating, swimming, sea canoeing and snorkeling that you will remember for a long time to come.
On board you will be treated all weekend on haute cuisine meals and sip the best cocktails east of Bali, while on a deserted beach you will taste a barbecue in a truly unalienable setting while the ship's orchestra plays nostalgic tunes and the Southern Cross blinks over the bonfire.
No cars allowed on Gili Terawangan

After all-a-board in Amed, we sail to the isle of Gili Trawangan on the north-west coast of Lombok where we arrive at about 2.30pm. Here we have ample time for snorkeling, swimming and sight seeing the island by horse carriage or push bike. The island allows no cars and other motorized vehicles and is therefore a tranquil oasis. Late afternoon we will sale to Nara Bay at mainland Lombok where an a-la-carte diner sprinkled with rosé wine will be served out on the open deck followed by a quiet night at anchor.

Day 9, Sunday

After a sumptuous breakfast with fresh baked bread and croissants we take you by small boat to the beach near hole #4 of the Lombok Kosaido Golf & Country Club from where you will be picked up and taken to the clubhouse to get ready for an exciting round of golf.
Lombok Golf Kosaido is designed by Thomson, Wolveridge & Perret and reflects the designer trio's architectural philosophy that deeply respects the natural site from which the course came to be.
  Lombok Kosaido

The front nine is located at the sea and is home to the course's signature hole #4, a relatively short (290m) par 4.
The back nine plays inland towards Lombok's collection of mountains. Lombok Golf is the ultimate in tropical golf as it is back-dropped by mountains, palm trees, white sandy beaches and islands shimmering in the crystal clear blue waters across the bay.
After your final round, by road we'll take you via rural Lombok villages to the small harbor of Lembar to re-embark the Katharina. We sail off to the uninhabited islet of Gili Tangkong some 45 minutes off the coast where we will spend the rest of the afternoon and evening exploring the beaches, swimming and snorkeling, drinking fresh coconut milk, making music and enjoying in splendid isolation a seafood barbecue light years away from the world's crowds. The night will be spent at anchor.

Day 10, Monday

Early birds may enjoy the sun rising over hazy mountains surrounding the Katharina. When skies are clear, a view of both the Agung volcano on Bali and the Rinjani volcano on Lombok will present itself. Some on board will be woken up by the smell of freshly baked croissants,
Sunbathing on board of the Katharina
take a quick breakfast and go out for snorkeling over the reefs of Gili Nanggu, the adjacent island. Here local fish beg for the leftovers of our gorgeous breakfast. The fish well fed, we set sail heading for the island of Nusa Lembongan, off the east coast of Bali. Arrival at approx. 2.30 p.m. when the island is just about to be deserted by the crowds every day invading from Bali. After enjoying the Mediterranean atmosphere of the place or having sipped afternoon tea at one of the local restaurants, it will only take a few hours before we will enter the island of Serangan (turtle island) connected with the mainland of Bali. Here you will say farewell to the crew and transfer back to your hotel.

Day 11, Tuesday

This day we'll take you to the Spa for a well deserved treatment the Balinese way.
Enjoy your dinner at the pool area.
After all the rounds of golf you have played you need to rejuvenate your mind, body and soul. The Balinese Spa includes a traditional massage that is famous for its soothing and healing features. We'll make sure that you will have a day at the Spa that you will never forget.
